Absolute Beginner – Sewing 101

This class is designed for the person who would like to learn to sew, but doesn’t know where to start, as well as a refresher course for those who haven’t sewn in years.  Each session is built on the previous one to build your confidence and skills.  (If you don’t have a machine, one will be provided.)

SESSION 1 – Does your sewing machine intimidate you?  This class is machine-intensive. Learn how to thread your machine, wind a bobbin, how and when to change a needle and other mechanics of sewing.  Tips will be given on how to avoid “user errors” and frustration with thread jams, and how to trouble-shoot problems when they arise. We will also cover what to look for when you are ready to purchase a new machine (and what to avoid).

SESSION 2
– Learn about the supplies you’ll need and how to use them to make your sewing easier and more accurate.  You will learn to use a rotary cutter, acrylic ruler and mat to speed your fabric cutting.

SESSION 3 – Learn how to read a pattern and take measurements, select and layout fabric.

Note:  There will be a project for each session that will be completed in class time.  All are suitable for gifts, so you can make more than one to build your confidence.

Classes are held in my home in North Raleigh (NC) and are limited to six adults.  It is recommended that you reserve your space early.  Classroom machines available.

CLASS FEE   $40 for each 4-hour session ($120  total).  Deposit of $40 is required to confirm your reservation.  The other sessions are pay-as-you-go.
