Shopping for a Sewing Machine

There are a LOT of people out there who really want to learn to sew, but don’t know how to shop for a machine.  I’ve created another page unto itself, because there is a truckload of information to share.  (Check the tabs at the top of the page or in the column to the right.)  Comments or questions (above) are welcome.

Wow! There’s a lot of great information on your new page! One question… which is better, a drop in or front load bobbin? Which one requires the dismantling of the machine?

  2. Judy says:

I have owned three sewing machines with the front-loading bobbin. Whenever there was a jam (and there were many) the thread would wrap around the parts which held the bobbin in place. I had to put the machine on its side in order to easily access the bobbin case, open the hinges that hold the race and hook, clear the jam, and then re-assemble them. Top-loading bobbins seldom jam, and are easier to clear. In addition, you can easily see how much thread is left on the bobbin. Most all of your newer machines have the top-loading one.
